Homemade Chicken and Potato Curry


  • Diced Chicken
  • Diced potatoes (peeled)
  • Half Peeled plum tomatoes tin
  • 1tbsp tomato puree
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 2 Star anise
  • Large onion Chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic peeled and pressed
  • Ginger peeled and finely chopped
  • Olive oil
  • 5 Tsp of Dhana Jeera Powder
  • 3 Tsp of chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 3 Tbsp coconut powder
  • 2 tbsp Salt
  • 1-2 Finely chopped chillies (depending on how hot)
  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • Chopped coriander to serve
  • Rice To serve


  1. On a large pan heat the oil and add the cinnamon sticks and Star anise
  2. Once hot add the onions
  3. Once onions are brown add Ginger and garlic
  4. Add the tomato tin and Tomato puree
  5. Add, Dhana Jeeru powder,Chilli powder,turmeric powder,garam masala, salt and chopped chillies to the tomato mixture.
  6. Taste, add more salt or chilli powder depending on taste
  7. Add the coconut powder to the tomato sauce
  8. Add the chicken and potatoes and coat well for 5 minutes.
  9. Add the water and cover.
  10. Cook for 35-40 minutes until the chicken and potatoes are cooked.
  11. During the 35 minutes keep stirring and if needed add small amounts water.
  12. Serve with chopped coriander and Rice 🙂
